Chris Hails

I am a British-born biologist who has worked his whole life in biology and conservation. I first picked up my interest in recording and learning bird sounds when I worked in Malaysia and Singapore in the ‘70s and ‘80s, where I quickly realised that in tropical rainforests you hear many species but unless they are a tree they are hard to see!

I moved to Switzerland in the late ‘80s to work for WWF International and I have now retired there.

My early recording efforts in Asia were all analogue in those days of course, but fast forward a couple of decades and my son, who became a sound technologist, taught me the digital world and I took off from there. I want people to learn to love and appreciate the wonders of our natural world the way I do. If this little site helps some people down that path then I am well satisfied.
